Description
The Autumn Blaze is a fast growing shade tree. It is a cross between Red and Silver Maple. In the spring it develops burgundy red flowers, then, red seeds begin to form and grow. They are often more colorful than the flowers. The buds turn to a tan leaf which then falls off and green summer foliage starts. The fall color is a brilliant red and orange. It develops a rounded oval shape and is considered a shade tree.
The Autumn Blaze can reach 60 feet in height with a spread of 40 feet. It is tolerant to a wide variety of soil types and climates. It tolerates clay soil, and will withstand wet soil conditions and drought. Plant in full sun to partial shade. They are pollution-tolerant and are suitable for urban areas. They are both insect-resistant and disease-resistant. It is best to transplant during cool temperatures. Maples need water into the fall to produce a vibrant color, so late fall watering maybe necessary.
