Description
The Colorado Blue Spruce is a medium-sized evergreen tree. It is a relatively slow-growing tree. It can be used as an ornamental tree, a windbreak, or a privacy screen. It is an awesome silver blue-green in color. A mature tree has a cylindrical shape. The shoots are stout and orange-brown. The leaves are short and needle-like with a viciously sharp tip. This evergreen produces pinecones.
The Colorado Blue Spruce can reach 60 feet in height. It can have a 10-20 foot spread in a landscape, but much wider in the wild. It can have a trunk diameter of 5 feet and can live to 200 years old. It grows best in moist, nutrient-rich, and well-drained soil. It is pretty resistant to drought, however, in dry weather, a young tree will need to be watered about once a week until it is established. It prefers full to partial shade and does not grow well in the shade.
