The leaves are long, needle-like and a slightly flexible tip. It has cones that are slender, long, and very open. This evergreen produces pinecones every 3 to 5 years.
The white pine has a reputation for being the tallest tree in the eastern North America. It can reach 250 feet in height, but an average is 50-80 feet with a 20-40 foot spread. It can have a trunk diameter of 3-5 feet and a mature tree can be 200-250 years old. It prefers well-drained soil and cool, humid climates. It can also grow in rocky highlands and boggy areas.
